Marketing like most global concepts today, started a long time ago. Marketing is simply the art of using strategies to persuade a target group of people to patronize your business or buy your products or services.
Over the years past, certain marketing strategies have passed the test of time obviously because of their ability to produce results.
In today’s marketing sector, there are a staggering number of marketing strategies and more unsurprisingly keep popping up everyday. Invariably, marketing in itself is divided into only two branches:
Traditional marketing and,
Digital marketing
So, what ever form of marketing your business or any business you encounter, falls under these two umbrellas.
We will make traditional marketing our focal point today.
Still in the spirit of keeping things simple, we’d use a straight to the point definition. Traditional marketing is simply any marketing that is done offline.
That means any form of marketing that is not done using the internet falls squarely under traditional marketing. By now, you should be able to think of some traditional marketing examples around you.
Every day, people, you and I come across a lot of traditional marketing examples such as the Mouka foam billboard at the road side, the Christ Embassy program flyer a stranger handed to you, the speakers blaring jingles for herbal cure-alls at the motor park and so many others.
So, as stated above, traditional marketing channels have been used over a long time and are still in use today. Why, what benefits do they offer businesses and individuals that use them?
When traditional marketing channels are used properly, they are quite difficult to forget. I mean, I can still remember the jingle of the indomie “to me, to you†advert, or song in skye bank’s “I wish I had someone…†ad. Because, they were catchy and therefore unforgettable.
Most often, these traditional marketing channels make instant impact and as such, they become memorable and a tad bit impossible to forget. With traditional marketing, businesses, and marketers have the opportunity to reach their target market’s senses, the eyes, the ears, and most importantly, their emotions.
One major hand traditional marketing has over digital marketing is the fact that it is more or less permanent. Therefore it is bound to be more memorable.
The Golden Penny foods billboard you pass on your way to work will still be there in your way back and the next day too. The permanence of traditional marketing methods I believe contribute to their impact and memorability.
When used properly, a good traditional marketing campaign is bound to produce results.
5. They offer access to everyone:
Traditional marketing methods offer access to all demographic of people. There are people who do not have access to the internet, some have access but do not go online frequently. The thing this form of marketing is that it offers equal opportunity for contact with everyone. For instance, Children, adults, teens, smartphone users, etc can all see a billboard and get the message being passed.
They are expensive
The results are difficult to measure
It is difficult to target audience with traditional marketing methods.

In order to launch and hold a successful brand promotion, a firm and sound knowledge of the target market is imperative. The target market constitutes your potential costumers. This can be determined based on age, sex, occupation, etc. Running brand promotion without your target audience in view can lead to huge losses. A good example of such is the Abercrombie and Fitch company; they were boycotted severally by their consumers, for sexualized statements, racy taglines and at a point body-shamin
