How to Build Brand Authority in Your Business

Do you want to become the one people turn to when they need their problems solved in your industry? And by everyone I'm talking about consumers and even competitors. Everybody would see and hold your words, opinions and business in high value.
This would also mean that your business and products would require minimal marketing effort to produce above average ROI. 

This is totally achievable, when you have brand authority. Having brand authority would mean that you are perceived to be an expert in your field of business. Any entity can build brand authority; a person, a business, an organisation, etc.
Brand authority is the strategic process of positioning an individual or business in a niche based on expertise, knowledge and experience. That means to be considered an authority in your niche or industry, you need to have above average knowledge in your field backed with experience too.

But, then think about this. Why would people listen to what you have to say? Why should they hold your opinions above athers?
How can you build brand authority?
These vital questions are what we would be looking into. Having discussed the importance of authority marketing, it is only fair that we understand how a business or business owner can develop and grow to become an authority in the first place.

Components of Brand Authority

For building or development to actually take place, certain components have to be put in place. These components would serve as the pillars that would hold the structure of your building. For brand authority too, there are six vital components or pillars that make up the authority of a brand.
1. The brand itself
2. Content
3. Public speaking
4. Referrals
5. Public relations
6. Networking

The Brand

This component is the core of building brand authority. It defines who you are or what your business is. Your brand holds the integral message of your identity, it is the soul of your business. Defining your brand would enable you fine tune your content, determine your target audience and strategies to position your business at the top.

Content

The content is an extension of your brand. To build authority, what you have to give to others is important. Nobody hands authority to anyone, what you have to give shows your level of expertise in a field. So, it should be based on knowledge and backed with experience with solving problems in that field.  

Speaking

Speaking at events, workshops, seminars and gatherings of people within your industry and niche is a sure way to build authority. You might have the right content, but people would not know about it if you do not show that you have such knowledge. Another good way to do this is by writing books or as technology has blessed us with social media and the internet, utilise them to show off your knowledge and expertise. 

Referrals

Referrals are a great way of building brand authority. A referral from an authority can put in a good word for you, this would help boost the position of your brand. Just like Elon Musk did with Bitcoin earlier this year. Now, referrals must not necessarily come from high authority figures, little referrals from people who have used your services can go a long way in establishing your brand as an authority.

Public Relations and Marketing

Market your self and your abilities. Yes, authority is a great tool for marketing, but to build brand authority in the first place, you have to be a known entity in your niche. Relate with customers and competition alike, use whatever means necessary to spread the word about your brand. 

Networking

Just as books, interviews, seminars and so on are great opportunities to build authority, attending functions and events in your niche would also go a long way. Positioning yourself would require the people that be to have a knowledge of your presence. So networking is a very important prerequisite for developing your brand's authority. These connections gotten from networking would also come in handy for referrals.

Utilize these components, they are all within your grasp. Then, you will be well on your way to becoming "the man" in your field of business.
