7 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Mobile App This Year

Shalom Solomon

Why are smartphones the most popular digital devices? Why does almost everyone own or desire to own a smartphone?
There are quite a number of answers to these questions above. And I believe you will agree with me that everybody wants or owns a smartphone for three reasons
  • It's Portability
  • Funtionality and
  • Well, everybody has one.

Now let's not get ahead of ourselves and say that other digital devices aren't fun and functional. But, their usability pales in comparison to smartphones.
Your smartphone is a mini computer and what makes it more desirable when compared to other digital devices is the fact that it can be easily carried anywhere. Even swimming! there are water resistant smartphones like the latest iPhones and Samsung phones.

It's a given that, other digital devices like laptops, desktops and so on have software applications and can perform some of the same functions as smartphones. But, it would be really uncomfortable if you have to carry a laptop around to do basic tasks like taking notes, calculations, play music or videos, etc.
Smartphones are able to carry out all these functions and more. How?

Mobile applications have completely transformed phones from just communication devices to multifunctional computers.
Mobile apps are the secret ingredient of smartphones. From native apps, to hybrid apps, they have made smartphones much more enjoyable and functional for users.
So, we can say that mobile applications have made smartphones indispensible. This is evidenced by the fact that everyday, new apps are being created by developers and downloaded by smartphone users too.

From 2016 to 2020 alone , there have been over 200 billion app downloads. Huge numbers I know. Businesses have noticed the importance and value mobile apps can add to their operations especially with customers. In 2020, 65% of black Friday sales were through smartphones. And 39% of the sales were made using the company's mobile app.
These numbers might seem small, but they are pivotal for a business.

Due to the increasing reliance of people on mobile apps, a lot of businesses all over the world now have mobile apps. Those who do not have one already, are willing or are in the process of developing their own.
Why is this so? What value do mobile apps add to businesses?
Below, we would look at the reasons why your business should have a mobile app already.

Importance of Mobile Apps to Businesses

We will be looking at six of some of the vital ways mobile apps can positively impact your business. They include:
1. Ease of access
2. Communication
3. Stronger engagement and brand presence
4. Personalized customer service
5. Supports marketing
6. Increases visibility

1. Ease of access

Okay, let me start this point with a quick question. Do you prefer to use the web version of Facebook or the Facebook app?
 The app. Right?
Why?
Because it gives you easy access to Facebook without going through the undue stress of typing the address, waiting for it to load, entering your password, loading every individual page and all that.
A mobile app would give your customers direct access to your business' services. They just need to tap on your app and they are in your virtual business environment.

2. Communication

A mobile app gives you direct access to your customers or prospective clients. You would be able to send interact directly with them through the app. Also, push notifications have always been a sure way to grab people's attention. A user is more likely to engage on a push notification than an ad on the web. The only way to get your notifications on your target client's phone is with a mobile app.

3. Stronger Brand Engagement and Presence

Businesses are always seeking for better ways to engage with their clients and target audience. From the brand tone, colours, giveaways, jingles and so on, businesses are always doing their best to grab a customers attention and build positive engagement. That way, there is always a higher possibility that such customer would come back for more and hopefully refer others.
A mobile app would help you achieve this easily by establishing a stronger brand presence in an environment that is totally imbued by your brand. When users open your app, they get the wholesome experience with your business and get to interact with your brand.

4. Personalized Customer Service

One thing a mobile app can give you is access to your customer's data. The data gotten from a customer's activity on your app can be used for data analytics. And support your business decision making process. Consequently helping you improve your business to serve your customers better. Using your business mobile app, would enable easy and swift movement between pages. Also you would be able to offer products and/or services based on the customer's previous activity on your platform.

5. Supports Marketing

Marketing has a lot of unwritten rules, one of which is keeping up with competition. It wouldn't bode well for your business if you lag behind while your competitors reel in clients with better services.
While having a mobile app for your business would.mean standing up to competition , there are other benefits too. Like I mentioned above, push notifications for marketing, sales offers and news about your business are a great marketing strategy. You stand to get a higher Return on Investment too.

6. Increases Visibility

The presence of your business' mobile app on a user's phone is serves as a reminder for your business in the minds of clients. Coupled with the benefit of easy access, your business' mobile app would enable high Return on Investment.

Conclusion

If the reasons above are not enough to convince you, how about I tell you one more benefit. A mobile app can generate revenue for your business. I'm not talking about money from direct sales, additional revenue
With a great user interface and experience coupled with good content, your app would definitely build engagement and encourage prospective and existing customers to use your app. Now, you can leverage this traffic to generate income using means like in-app advertising and in-app purchases.
Also, you can offer special features on your app for a little token from users using the freemium and premium monetisation strategies.
So, dear business owner and reader, if you do not have a mobile app to support your business yet, and you don't plan on getting one, you are missing out on a lot.
